Designing a Fuller room with fewer pieces

A room doesn’t need to be filled with furniture and accessories to feel complete. In fact, using deep, dramatic colors and a few high-impact pieces can create a much more intentional and elevated interior. For this design board, we selected pieces exclusively from Rejuvenation, a higher end source known for timeless lighting, furniture, and home furnishings. The room features just one rug, two leather wingback chairs, two pieces of artwork, and one oversized chandelier. Yet the space feels layered and visually rich. The secret is in the color palette. Deep blues, rich reds, dark leather, and an oversized lighting fixture create visual weight without requiring a large number of furnishings.

One of our favorite strategies at Ash & Oak Design Co. for creating a luxury look on a smaller interior design budget is allowing the paint color to do more of the work. Here Benjamin Moore, Hale Navy is intended to be color drenched across the walls, trim, and ceiling. This creates a dramatic, enveloping effect. The technique of color drenching eliminates visual breaks and makes the entire room feel intentionally designed from floor to ceiling. When paired with dark leather furniture, a richly patterned rug, and moody artwork makes the room feel fuller without adding unnecessary pieces. For homeowners who want the look of a high end interior but need to be selective about where they spend their budget, investing in a few luxury statement pieces and using paint strategically can have a major impact. Rather than buying more, the goal is to make every element count.
